No! Source Squads lessons can be used with or without a device.

When students are permitted a device, we recommend instructing students to keep them closed unless they are absolutely needed (searching a definition, researching context, etc.).

If students do not have devices, teachers can simply remove video/audio sources from the Universal Source Material.

Source Squads Learning Strategies asks students to facilitate historical literacy, not to divide the labor like in a jigsaw.

For example, in Source Squads, the Sourcer’s responsibility is not to source the document; it is to guide the Squad’s sourcing of the historical material through annotation and discussion prompts on their role card.

Sources Squads was designed for any student in grades 6-12. We believe that all students can learn to read through a historical lens with the right supports.

Source Squads provides equitable access to those skills through replicable learning strategies, along with sources tiered to different levels of sources.

Nope! Teachers can adapt the expectations of a lesson based on time and ability of the students. As the school year progresses, students will typically be able to interpret more sources over one lesson as they become more comfortable with the strategies.

2025-26 Subscriptions

Role Cards and Dry Erase Markers will begin shipment in July 2025.

Beginning on July 15, subscribers will receive an email with digital access to lesson plans, inquiry maps, and squad goals for their Supplemental Curriculum, along with Instructional Guides and training videos.

Subscribers are provided with access to Teacher and Student Academies, an instructional video series to educate teachers and students on Source Squads Learning Strategies. We are also available for coaching and support!

Additionally, subscribers are given access to our Instructional Guides that contains a variety to teacher tips and other supports for educators.
